We have put together a fast and cost effective kit for re-sharpening your flat edges including plane irons chisels and slicks. It consists of a piece of float glass with 180-grit and 320-grit wet/dry, self-adhesive sandpaper attached, a leather strop, aluminum oxide and the MKII Honing Guide by Veritas Tools

We recommend the use of a the Veritas MK II Honing Guide to ensure that you hold the correct angle of your cutting edge. The gritty surface of the wet/dry sandpaper holds the leather in place while you polish your blades.

Depending on the amount of honing that is required you will need to replace the wet/dry sandpaper after each use or every couple of uses. This can be used either wet or dry (always be cautious of the amount of heat you create while running your cutting edge across the paper). The container of aluminum oxide should last most of one lifetime;a little bit goes a long way.
